What people think vs reality: Humphreys’ 5/170 looks like a good bowling performance because he took 5 wickets. In reality, conceding 170 runs in 43 overs at 3.95 per over while Bangladesh declared at 587 means Humphreys was unable to stop the innings he was just in the attack long enough to accumulate wickets. Joy’s innings made Humphreys’ figures look respectable while actually neutralising him completely.

Mushfiqur Rahim’s 106 on his 100th Test cap Bangladesh’s milestone moment

Mushfiqur Rahim became only the second Bangladeshi batter (after Shakib Al Hasan) to score a Test century on his 100th Test cap. His 106 off 192 balls at Mirpur on a Shere Bangla track that had already given McBrine 6 wickets was not just statistically significant. Matthew Humphreys’ hat-trick-over the most dramatic T20I bowling moment of this tour

In the 4th over of his spell, Humphreys had already taken Tanzid Hasan’s wicket (for 2). Bangladesh had slipped to 71/5 difficult but theoretically chaseable with Hridoy at the crease. Then Humphreys took the wet ball and removed Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Rishad Hossain, and Nasum Ahmed in three consecutive deliveries reducing Bangladesh from 71/5 to 74/8.

Three wickets in one over. Three consecutive dismissals. Effectively a hat-trick inside one over.

But here is the real problem with how the scorecard alone describes this: 4/13 in 4 overs looks like steady bowling. It was not steady it was a specific over with a wet ball where Humphreys’ left-arm spin grip changed flight and dip conditions enough to find edges and mistimed hits.
